Our local grocery store had a deal on 4 packs of Momofuku noodles, regular price $11.99, but on sale for $5.99, which I thought was a steal (full price feels steep). So we picked up all 4 flavors to review for you all. The prep for all is pretty simple and similar to ramen: boil the noodles, strain and add sauce packets.
Our final flavor to try was the Spicy Soy. (Although now I am realizing there is a Tingly Chili flavor that we somehow missed.) This is a 3 out of 5 spice level, but my spice tolerance seems to be less than the Momofuku clan, so for me this is 5 of 5, max spice, get the heck outta here. The sauce came in one packet that you had to shake up first.
I didn’t have super high expectations, since the Soy Scallion was kind of unremarkable. However, this flavor was painfully good. It was very spicy and I had to take breaks to breathe some of the spice away, but a great burn that really kept me coming back for another bite. The package says the spice is a spicy chili oil, so maybe the extra fat is what helps the tastier flavors stand out above. 4 out of 5 stars.
So now I have 2 packets of each flavor of noodles remaining and I think we have to do a mix and match flavor-off to see if there is something magical in combining some of these interesting sauces. Stay tuned…
