Chocolate Ice Cream

This is an ice cream base recipe that should work in any ice cream maker. Follow the instructions for operation on your specific model.

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Start by mixing the milk into the cocoa powder and sugar a little at a time, then gently stir the base ingredients together, until the sugar is dissolved.

Once everything is well combined, cover the mixture and put in the refrigerator overnight to chill.

Add the chilled mixture to your ice cream maker, following your model’s instructions.

Once it is finished churning and freezing, pack your ice cream into pint or quart containers. Work quickly, so that the base doesn’t melt too much. Freeze overnight to let it harden to the appropriate consistency.
