Dead Bones

These are a traditional Italian cookie that have a unique taste and texture. They are left out to create a shell and when they are baked the inside seeps out and there is a sticky base and a crunchy shell. I typically make a half batch of these.

  • 3.5 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2.5 cups of flour
  • 3 tsp of baking powdered
  • 2.5 tsp of ground cloves
  • 3 eggs, beaten

Sift together the dry ingredients, add the eggs into a well in the middle. Knead to create a smooth dough. Roll dough into 3/4 inch logs and cut into 1.5 inch lengths on the diagonal. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rest overnight.

The next day preheat the oven to 350. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the cookies 2 inches apart as they will spread. Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden and the center has spilled out. Remove from pan immediately to cool.
